Now Open for Entries for the TP Banner!

Each month we are asking you to post a photo that you think deserves that top slot on the FB page, that you can share and brag about to your friends. The winner will be chosen by member vote and the winning photo will be there for all to see for a month. You don't have to have a Facebook account to enter of course, the competition will take place here and just the winning photograph will be added to the Talk Photography facebook page. [give us a LIKE if you haven't already please]


Of course there have to be a few simple rules and here they are.

  • The photo you submit MUST be cropped to this ratio > 851px x315px - This is where the challenge will lie, finding the right photo for such a ratio and avoiding the main focus being on that left hand side. Any photos not to this ratio will unfortunately not feature in the voting.
  • You will have one week each month to submit your photo and voting will be open for one week afterwards.
  • By submitting your photo, you are granting TalkPhotography permission to use that image for a month on the Talk Photography Facebook page and a post promoting the fact you have won within the status updates on the page.
  • The Talk Photography facebook page is an open, public page, so we must ask that all photos are 'family' friendly. [in other words, use your common sense ;) ] but other than that, the theme is totally open, unless otherwise stated for particular months.
  • You may add a small lower/upper right hand corner watermark if you wish, but no great big ones that cover/distort the photo or generally spoil the viewing experience.

So, here we go with this months, you are submitting photos that will feature on the page in March/Early April, so you have from now until midday, Tuesday 3rd March to get your entries in. The voting will then be open until Tuesday 10the March, so our winner can be announced and added to the page. Post them in this thread please and don't forget that crop ratio.

We run this every month so it is worth remembering when you are taking photos to perhaps think about framing the odd picture to suit this crop with an entry in mind.

Got to say, of the 4 entered so far, I would struggle to chose a favourite, the standard is increasing every month in this banner fight!

@Yv I wonder if it would be possible for the winning banner(s) to also be used as a banner on the TP homepage above the recent photos box? This way people who aren't on Facebook can get to see them and it might drum up more entrants and votes. Just a thought :)

Good idea Mike, I am not a user of FB for a number of reasons.:eek:
 
I will ask Marcel, but I am not sure it can tbh, partly because the software would probably need recoding and partly because the dimensions could cause a problem, as in, if the forum body width above those photos is greater than 851px, which I suspect it is, then you have a whole new set of problems with how you ask people to crop and resize their image [the correct ratios but actually a bigger image so it doesn't pixelate]. We know that not everyone uses Facebook and thats fine, but this specifically for that and for those that do. Will see what he says. :)

Ahh right, thanks Yv. I thought I'd suggest it just incase. I use facebook sometimes but thought if we had a banner each month for the page perhaps we could use it for the forum to :)

Nice idea and we might get even more entries, I am sure whoever won could resize their image for the forum if need be but I suppose it might mean a lot of work for Marcel.

The last winner, which just happens to be mine ;), only went up just over two weeks ago, so quite your jibber jabber lol. So that would mean its due around now, or as soon as Yv can get around to it, no rush mind :)

Indeed, Feb was a short month anyway, though by the time entries have been posted, voting done thats another 2 weeks anyway ;)

Matt, it's a fun comp, as long as it's around 4-4.5 weeks, timings aren't uber important. ;)
 
I was wondering where this had gone even went looking for it as I have one to enter this month.[emoji4]
