Yes

A recent early day visit at the marsh gave me this: still trying to find its way
through the rest of the heavy clouds from the night, a shy daylight came in
the scene… it was a breathtaking moment in what was suppose to end like
an other fruitless image hunting session at the marsh.

Good to see something different "birdwise" Daniel

the only thing that I could suggest is to pull the shadows right back, (on the left and right hand edges), to emphasis the silver light more down the centre of the image

just a suggestion to try

Yes, I see what you mean, an honest suggestion for a more dramatic rendition
in a magazine for example.

However, any treatment that would modify the "as seen" characteristic in my
wildlife photography is not in my book. I am a firm believer in the "Mother
Nature needs no makeup" quote! For sure, many interpretations of this scene
are possible and all would have their respective interests but I stop when I
have rendered what was seen.

In this case, capturing this low-key scene is reality. With the clouds moving
fast because of the fair wind that morning, I saw the beam coming towards
the middle of the marsh where this duck was. So I shot the light beam…
too bad if the duck is in the way. I had no time to pick up
another subject.

I only discovered the magic of her presence once in my RAW converter.

Thanks Daniel ....... I agree that there is a tendency in many cases to change an image in pp .......... to "help" creativity

…on my iPad I had to scroll down, following the light revealed the duck :)

Thanks Dave!
Getting back to the studio, I knew there will be a duck in the scene but I had the surprise to see
that the duck was beautiful: only one eye but opened, in a pleasant angle to the camera, etc

I would have been with happy with a swan in full wing spread or another spectacular bird but I
got a duck and I'm quite happy with it!

Daniel,oh I love,nah adore your outlook on nature!!

The shot is moody and atmospheric ahh but she's just a little brown duck, not grandiose just plain ,with an eye of gold;). A striking image I wouldn't change anything. At first I wondered about the crop, if one should bring something off the top,but then the path of light would be confined. It's just lovely Daniel, something a bit different to grace the eye !!
Thank you for sharing this it is the first image I've seen from you Daniel, I hope there are many more to come.

Well done mate seriously well done

Stu

Such a shame both eyes were not in the shot as I think that would have just completed it.

I wish I could see both eyes but …

Hey busters,
the two eyes you wanna see are those of my girl
friend…
For the time, look in mine and you're lucky it's not the
mating season… I would quack you words you don't
really wanna hear! …now step aside will you!

Stuart, thank you for the storm of good words and your enthusiasm!

On my website, in the galleries and the portfolio… if you want to see
more feather porn!

Of the 2 i prefer the 1st image. The 2nd is out of focus in the important areas such as eyes and the bill, little feather detail and the whites on my screen look blown especially along the left side of the bird, the angle does nothing help...The 1st image does have some appeal with the streak of light running through the image.

The 2nd is out of focus.

I know, but it served my purpose to the reaction of some about the missing eye…
and they liked it, that's all that counts.
The second would have never been posted otherwise.
