Beginner First attempt at animal pictures

I made my first attempt at taking pictures of animals today, and the results were pretty bad. There's not a single shot that looks properly in focus, either that or I'm just spoilt with my macro lens and am used to far greater sharpness. A couple of shots:

Looking at exif of the first one you are at ISO 2000 and a slow shutter speed so not ideal. The second has better settings. Was the camera in AF-C mode. Try your lens out on something not moving in good light and see if you are happy with the results. If the lens is ok then it is just practice needed.

You would get a better picture by getting lower rather than shooting down on the subject. They are also very central. Try to put room in front of the animal crop or take it that way.
