I went here on Saturday, my first time with the camera at a proper track and I had a great time. My only panning experience before then was at stock car racing, which was quite tricky with all the fencing and floodlight poles in the way. I actually found it easier panning at Silverstone but would like some tips on how I can get better photos.

I had quite a lot of blurry photos that I binned, some that were ok, which I've kept for now and then the ones I like, which are in my album here.

I was using a D5000 with a Tamron 70-300, so I think some of the binned photos were down to the lens not being fast enough to focus but overall I think it is a lot better than the Nikon 55-200 I have.

I was shooting in shutter priority mode and did start at 1/60 but I found this was too slow so stuck to either 1/80 or 1/100, could I have possibly gone higher?

One thing I think I kept doing was not following the car through after pressing the shutter, I was moving back to try and photograph the next car. Does this show in the photos?

I know some blurring is acceptable, but in the first photo below, the rear and front of the car looks softer than the middle. How could I improve the shot so the whole car is as sharp as the middle? Would I get better results shooting in manual mode and setting the aperture myself?
