weekly Flyphots 52 for 2021: Week 52 'Showcase'

+1 for colour. The log across the top is a little distracting (less so in the mono versions) and I think the song titles on the sheet music are a bit lost because they're so... scattered... But I think it's a very cool idea.

cheers, as I said previously the backdrop stops it looking floaty so I decided to keep it in. (y)

Colour for me Jim, and a nice take on the theme too.

Tall
It's the colour for me. Good choices of music, at first I only saw the 'Stand tall' piece, then noticed that they all refer to tall things. In the black and white version, the papers a bit too bright for me.

Picking the colour version, though the blue and yellow discs distract a bit. When I zoom into the image and interesting version I saw had the words near the edges of the frame which also removed the fretboard (?).

Colour for me too - the music is to crisp and obviously modern to suit the others. It's a nicely thought through picture!

Cheers (y)

Definitely the colour version. None of the mono versions do the wood justice. There's a warmth to it that the image needs IMO.

Super eye catching shot, I really like this one a lot, what a great idea for the theme, it works perfectly for me, I’d definitely choose the colour one.

Thanks Susie much appreciated

Definitely the colour version - love the variation in woods.. from rough sawn to paper! Great idea for the theme.

For my snappers choice i've added an image I made today. I have a sideline business making pens and i'm trying to be better at 'product photography'. I don't own a soft box or any specialist lighting (apart from a speedlight - not used for this image).

This is a selection of Bullet style pens that I've made for a customer in Dubai. Image made with just a halogen light as sidelight and ambient early morning daylight. Any CC most welcome as I'm a novice at product photography and need to make better images for my website.

I like it. If I had to criticize anything it would be that the colour of the tops of the pens is very similar to the background. For photographic purposes in this challenge I like it the way it is but for product sales I think you would need to bring out the whole pen a little.

Cheers, yes I thought the background is a little dark (I'll look to get a different colour for these dark pens I think).

I like it. Product photography isn't really there to be appreciated, it's there to show your customer what it is you're selling so they can make the best decision about whether they want it or not. With so may pens, a border and watermark, this comes across as more of a still life/fine art piece. If I was thinking of buying your pens I'd want to see what the nib/tip looked like.

Putting that to one side though I think the lighting is really nice and as a presentation piece, or headline image as a "starter" for a bunch of single images it works really well.

Thanks, very constructive comments and plenty to take away for me, really appreciate it.

As an image it looks great to me. As already said, if I was looking to buy one I would want an individual pen in detail.. so I could zoom in and look closely at the construction so probably on a light background and well lit.

Nothing to add to the comments, nice looking pens Jim

The BG is a similar colour but the pen tops stand out well. Nice exposure.

It's pretty classy as product shots go. The whole image suggests quality.

A bit behind with comments I'm afraid!

Tall: A lovely idea and nicely photographed. I think it's much better in colour as it shows off the wood of the violin.
Snapper's: I think this a good product shot. Colours work well for me.

Thanks Pete, appreciate you taking the time to comment.

Choice
As much as I like the background (lovely textures and tones), I don't think it helps to make the tops of the pens to stand out. The rest of it looks great and the pens themselves look top notch.

Lots of hard work in there Jim, I agree with the others on the choice of background, but the pens themselves look excellent..

Thank you both, appreciate the comments (y)

The pens make an interesting image, agree with some others about the background being close to the colour of the pen tops. My OCD when it looked back at the image started checking the pen colour sequence and then I noticed the two the same next to each other. I think it would work better if the alternating pattern was maintained. I would also be interested to see the pen top angle from left to right across the image which would also show more of the pen design
