Hi all,

Just wanted some opinions... at the moment I'm using centre weighted metering I think its referred as? On a Nikon its the spot with almost a circle around it.
I tried using spot focus however I struggled to get anything to focus quick enough.
I also only use one focus point.. However have heard people say they use more?

What's your guys thought on using centre with one spot?

Image attached as an example of the quality I'm getting from it.

Thanks!

(I have only put up 4 pictures on flickr as I've just joined)

Based on you shooting soccer, I would suggest…

  1. Matrix
  2. single point focus
  3. all focus points activated
  4. Wrap activated
  5. BBF
  6. continuous focus
  7. continuous high speed trigger
  8. trigger on release only
  9. tracking ON adjusting delay to your need
These should get you on the right track!

Thanks for the advice Kodiak!

So i've switched it to matrix with a single focus point (hope thats correct)
then just activated the focus point wrap around.. is that right?
All the others I think Im using already.

Thanks

Matrix is a light metering function
and AF is not related to it in anyway.

Applying the RFM strategy is always good.

Have a good time!

!
Not quite... it is used for face recognition and 3d tracking.

Looking at the example images and this comment I suspect the issue is technique related.

You don't want/need it to "focus quick enough"... you want focus already established and being maintained by the AF system. I.e. anticipate the shot and focus on the subject/start tracking earlier

Have you read this? https://www.dpreview.com/reviews/nikon-d7200/11

There is always a fractional lag while autofocus locks on. More with some cameras than others. The 'trick' is to have a crystal ball so you can anticipate where the focus needs to be before the action happens. I'd lend you mine, but its in for an upgrade LOL

Haha I'll have to get me one of those! From the depths of the Amazon rainforest by any chance?
