Food for a friend

Hi,

Yesterday I did a bit of a 'shoot' for a friend that is giving some free business advice to a local restaurant. I did it as a favour (well, we ate the food pictured) but was pretty keen to do a decent job. I have never done anything like this before so just sort of went with it.

Quite happy with some of the shots but would appreciate any feedback. These are about half of the images I will be sending over.

They were shot in the restaurant using natural light only.

I didn't bother with the RAW files, just did a little crop/sharpen/slight colour edit on the JPEG files.

These images will be used on their website and social media.

I have got the RAW files, just didn't use them - if the issues are bad enough, I could go back and edit the RAW's instead

COOOOOOL!
This is just suggesting a possible solution on jpg…

The photos and food both look good but if shooting them again be careful to remove any little fragments of stray food/sauce, etc. from around the edges of the plates and platters (a bit of sauce on the rim of the white bowl, a bit of food fragment and spilt garlic sauce on the wooden platter in front of the prawns/langoustines, and what looks like the occasional crumb or two on the tables in some of the shots).

This might seem a bit OTT, but with shots like this the presentation of the food and cleanliness of the surroundings is very important as people tend to notice these things far more than they would in real life. You can probably sort some of them out in 'Photoshop'. Hope you don't mind me saying this.

Thanks very much, agreed - I should have done this but to be honest, just shot the food as it was given to me minus a couple of rearrangements. Will definitely take on board for next time.

No problem, as I say, I think most of the few small fragments can be cloned out easily enough in Photoshop. The downside is that I feel hungry now! :D

If it is of any use I was on Youtube last night and there are lots of vids on food photography and ..... some are actually useful, not withstanding the dreadful muzak which every youtuber seems to insist on trying to speak over.

Yeah I had a look at a couple but some of them suggest ridiculous lighting rids/techniques that I just wasn't prepared to do for a freebie!

The client seems happy with them and I really had to work with what I had, I basically had a couple of tables and light through a window haha.
