A friend suggested a very very early start to go and see groups of Four-spotted chasers (Libellula quadrimaculata) awakening and climbing the reeds at 1st light. Sunrise was 05:05(ish) and meeting at the car park, proceeded to the location a 20-30 min walk away. Arriving before Sunrise and having a good scout about there were already several small groups of FSC's starting to emerge from the reeds. Within 20-30 mins of Sunrise some of the groups had grown to 30+ insects. They move very slowly up to the top of the chosen reed and when fully warmed up fly off. It was about 07:00 when the 1st of them took to the air.

Thanks to Steve and the folks who provided the info on where to look.

Quite a sight and well worth getting up at 03:00 for :wacky:

Brilliant .... what a find, early start for me then at the weekend.

Love them all :D

Stunning images. Realy like #3. Well worth the early start.

I have never seen anything like this, absolutely amazing. What a stunning sight and very well photographed too.

Thanks folks, if we get a nice evening (pesky weather) I'm tempted to try and see them arriving, although I suspect it might not be so spectacular.

Really really nice work [emoji3]

Especially like number 3 wing detail against the background colour.

Very original, don't usually see images like this.

Bet it was well worth getting up early for!
