OK, not what you had most likely expected, but surely not a bad idea, no?
(Apart from the obvious missing level of protection against knocks and drops).

But still....

Thoughts?

That's a pretty nifty idea that! There's no reason it couldn't be made out of thin black plastic to give it less of a home made feel either!

We could have a blue peter type competition

10 points to the person who posts the best looking hood and another 10 points for the person who knocks it together in the shortest time.

:D

... and 100 points to the person who turns up to a TPF meet with one! :D

Is that ontop of the 1000 points on offer for the person who can get a meet organised :D

:exit:

To be honest £30-£40 for a lens hood doesn't exactly break the bank.
The high cost for the Super telephoto prime hoods is because they are made from Carbon Fibre.

Remember also that all Canon lens hoods have a felt lining to reduce reflection from light bouncing off the plastic into the lens.

Aye, but cardboard and fuzzy felt will do the same for a fraction of the cost......
