Beginner Gaslamp

This was taken mid afternoon today outside the church in Haworth. I caught the sun through the old gaslamp and darkened it a little. I'm still not convinced it works and whether I should have left it with a light blue sky....

The sun in he lamp is a great captture. Not sure the darkening of the surroundings work. I think the light blue sky may of shown something more.

Thanks for that, as I suspected. I've posted a cropped original for comparison and am still not sure either works. I've tried getting this shot a few times recently and today's conditions were perfect, but I'm just not happy with the end result. I'm not sure what else I expected though
