weekly George's 52 for 2018 And finished

Nice enough photo, could perhaps do with a bit more light on the horse but we've all been in that situation with this 52 lark.

We have Chris. It was late on in the day and although there is a touch of blue in the sky it was quite dull but that was the time I could go and so we make the best of it :)

Nicely done. Pretty impressive at full zoom, not sure that the 18-135 on my 80D would have retained that much detail.
Bang on theme. (y)

Thanks Tim. It's an 18-140 lens and it was the kit one that came with my camera. It's a really handy everyday use lens. Although I have to say they don't all come out so clear at full zoom :D

That's a fine looking Dobbin :)

Hi Georgina catching up on commenting

Abundance - Lovely image he looks like he's thinking all I want to do is go to sleep please go away

Heavy - Lovely image I prefer the edited version

Heavy - considering that was at the far end of your zoom lens, I agree that it has turned out well. I love horses so hard for me to pick fault :D, its a lovely image and the blue sky is very welcome. There hasn't been much in the way of nice skys where I am. Just seen the flipped version and that does work a bit better, that will teach me to look at the next page before adding my comments.

These were the first thing that came to my mind when the theme was announced, but sadly none around here.

Overall the shot works, but its a shame about the background hill and banking - the silhouette of the horse against a nice clean blue sky would have really made it.

Guard - Good choice for the theme and I like that you have not taken it straight on
Thick - I like the Pov it shows the thickness of show on the uprights and gives an abstract feel
Abundance - Lovely detail and so much character in that face.
Heavy - great detail for full zoom, mine always look soft when I use full zoom.

Nice Image Georgina. Love those big Fellas, 2nd version of the Image is slightly better. Blue sky is nice, but the hill behind him distracts a bit, may be a minute later would have been better.

Pete

Week 7 - Guard - Spent all week thinking about different types of guards non of which were possible, then finally Coastguard popped into my little brain. Other than calling them out to an emergency, this is the best I could do. This is the Coastguard headquarters in Port Erin with a bit of snow coming down :D

Great take on the theme, probably best you didn't call them out for the shot ;)

Week 8 - Thick - We rarely get much snow on the Isle of Man and it doesn't usually last long, but today for about half an hour it chucked it down so when it stopped and before it melts I nipped out and took a picture. So here is our thick layer of snow!

Nice DOF, wish the snow we had was only this thick...

Week 9 - Abundance - Almost in on time! This is not the picture I went to take! The lovely lady that I work for has a piece of art which is covered in origami cranes and I thought this would be a good image for abundance. So with her permission I took my camera to work on Wednesday. However when I got there it suddenly occurred to me that her very cute bulldog puppy has an abundance of wrinkles :D So here is Rufus. I had to wait until he was almost asleep because the stupid dog was scared of the camera and every time I lifted it up he lowered his head and walked away

What a cutie, another great and different take on the theme.

Week 10 - Heavy - This is one of the Heavy Horses at Cregneash. Cregneash is part of Manx National Heritage. From the website "Cregneash is a living illustration of a farming and crofting community in the 19th and early 20th century. You will see plough horses, Loghtan sheep, shorthorn cows, pigs and Manx cats". There are two horses here but they were both at the far side of the field, so at the very end of my zoom and then cropped too but I'm quite happy with the way it came out :)

Heavy by Georgina Shaw, on Flickr

I think I prefer this rendition to the other way around, great horse :)

Abundance of wrinkles! Rufus doesn't look particularly happy about having his photo taken, but well worth the effort. (y)

Heavy looks better with the horse walking from left to right! Great PoV!

Good shot for heavy, love these beautiful horses too.

Hi Everyone,

So sorry for the late response, haven't been on for a while except to check the themes but `I really do appreciate the time taken and all the comments. So, thank you all :D

Wet is a nice sea scape, good light in the background and certainly wet.

Juxtaposition is a very clever idea, and very well executed! Great DoF that separates the daffodils in the foreground from the graves behind (y)

Week 13 - Oval

This is commonly called the spaceship but it is actually a radio beacon. When you look at it from above it is round but from across the hill I think it can be classed as oval :D

Thanks very much Bernd :D

Juxta is abeaut! ... the way those daffodils stand out, the perfect dof. (y)

Oval .... shoehorn required, but fab sky. (y)

Hi Georgina,

Wet - VEry appealing shot, what with the reflections and all. A couple of god rays too.

Juxtaposition - It certainly juxtaposes life and death, and works nicely using the shallow DoF. Though flowers and graveyards are kind of expected together, so I think I need to award the order of the shoe-horn here :)

Oval - I don't see this as a shoe-horn, circles viewed from an angle are ovals.
Agree with David about the great sky, especially as it's B&W and that often can lose the sky a bit.

Guard: like this nice shot, brickwork colours tone in, with the blue, a great fine.
Thick: Another well liked, fresh snow and pleasant DOF.
Abundance: your wait was worthwhile, brillant capture with lots of detail.
Heavy: like the way the line of the hill/fence matches the horses neck, if that makes sense.nice detail on flickr.
Wet: like this and seems a bluey colour which looks brillant on my screen, do like the sky which seems menacing.
Juxa: Again a great capture, and looks to me just the right dof not to much or to little.
Oval: Great find for theme, thought it was a spaceship myself, certainly looks oval from the angle you chose.
Nice shots Georgina pleasant time looking at them.

Walter

Wet - I like the colour and the reflection.
Juxtaposition - The Daffodils really stand out from the graves in the back ground it works well.
Oval - certainly looks oval to me, I can see why its called the space ship

Juxta shot is great, good use of DOF for seperation...
Oval was agood spot as well.

Oval
Nout wrong with this, good sky, good composition and I like the fact it's a distance shot, it stands out well in the horizon.

Wet - what a lovely seascape, love the different tones of blue throughout the image, horizon looks nice and level so great work on that.
Juxta - another great image from you, brilliant image for the theme and great use of DOF.
Oval - a great image, and lovely sky, but I think it's not really saying oval to me unfortunately.

Wet is a good shot, nice wet reflections on the sand goes well together. Juxta is a very clever shot and take on theme too, good colours. Oval well this is a nice shot and the viewer can see it is oval.

Thanks Dave for the lovely comments :)

Thanks ver much Tim. Maybe not a shoehorn for juxtaposition but certainly a bit of a cliche :)

Thanks very much for taking the time to look through and for the lovely comments Walter. Glad you enjoyed looking at them :)

What an amazing construction Georgina, it looks like a space invasion, perfect choice in the b&w to emphasise the shape.

Thanks Susie. It is quite strange. Here's a close up view for you. You lose the oval shape but it looks even more bizarre :D

Thanks Mandy. It is a very thin oval :)

Week 14 - Straight - I took the original picture for this in the right week but, when I got home and put it on the computer I wasn't happy with it because I was't actually straight down the runway. So the old OCD wouldn't let me post it :D Annoyingly it's taken this long to get back on a decent day

Week 15 - Unattractive - These are the two biggest blots on the landscape of our little town. The first used to be the Marine Biological Station and was part of Liverpool University, it's been empty and not very attractive for a number of years but last year some local louts got in a managed to cause a fire. Since then it's been barricaded off and left to rot :( and the second is the old swimming pool. In it's hey day this was a very popular spot but it closed as a pool in 1981 and was a fish farm until the early 1990's but has been abandoned ever since :(

Straight, good idea for the theme and straight down the middle, well done for going back rather than compromising.
Second unattractive for me, it's a shame so many of these old open-air swimming pools have been left abandoned.
Shadow has nice strong contrast and good details at the top of the lamp post.
Beautiful view on a beautiful day and it was good of the clouds to form a nice leading line for you :)
