My daughter found this crawling about the house in Sydney...

Looks like a rain spider. Used to get loads of these in SA. They’re fairly harmless, but some can give a nasty bite.

What's the logistics of throwing those critters out?
I just looked up their average size, and the old glass-and-postcard trick isn't going to work.

Here’s one I took in SA when we went back in 2010. This is one I wouldn’t pick up, but the ones like the OPs picture (smaller brown ones) are quite timid and don’t mind being handled too much.

Rain (huntsman) spiders will often leap at the person trying to capture them.
