Wild Go For The Eyes!

This is one of the local hornets, very large & vicious looking beasts, which I found on a small wall. It looked dazed/confused, and though it was still alive it couldn't fly and seemed to be struggling.

It wasn't helped by the legion of ants swarming all over it and dragging it away. At one stage, it looked like the hornet tried to escape by throwing itself off the wall and away from the ants but four of these small ants, hugely overshadowed by the 5cm long hornet, held on for dear life and dragged it back up the wall. Astonishing to watch.

I read somewhere that the wasp and the ant have a
common ancestor… I think they forgot all about it!

Vicious and great behavioural shot... I'm surprised the ants didn't clip it's wings I have seen then do it to flies.
