God damm you facebook

Don't really understand your post or why you say mine was wrong... Condensed version of what I said boils down to

Lots of people don't like timeline
FB won't change it regardless as it wouldn't be financially viable
The people who use it have no control + are just pawns on the chessboard

When you boil it down we are actually agreeing with each other.

Nah, I was just pointing out that it not being changed immediately didn't necessarily mean that people's complaints weren't being listened to. Which is what your post implied, and still implies.

Saying that the users don't matter to Facebook is a far stretch. Facebook is a business, anyone who uses Facebook is therefore important. I don't know if Facebook is public yet, but if it is or when it is, then the user will become even more important because consumer confidence will reflect share price.

Either way, the concept of Facebook as an entity using its customers as pawns in some Orwellian dystopian chess game is a big jump.

I guess you're not familiar with the concept of capitalism then! :p

It happens to all social networking sites past and present. They start out as something small, they then grow bigger and start becoming commercialised. Less focus on the people, more focus on the £££. I really would not be surprised if facebook lose the plot eventually and do a MySpace. Then Google+ will become the new buzzword, and so on ad infinitum.

Same thing happened to YouTube - so commercialised its now practically an online TV channel.

All this over timeline?

Half the users don't like it? Don't you mean half of the 500 people they asked on their Facebook page?

Can someone explain what is so bad? It makes going back in time easier and it puts events, friends and places in order and erm....?

Facebook is going to be here for a very long time, it has attracted such a mass that it will back hard to kill it. Timeline is such a small part of it.

Perhaps those addicted to Facebook are against it but casual users will just tut and get on with it.

It also seems quite fashionable to bash timeline, but they never seem to explain why (seeing posts from friends on Facebook) and there are more people saying they like it.

I'm only a casual user of fb and I hate it. I've already given my reasoning in my previous post.
Also, why would you need to go back in time and read status updates from 9 months ago or more? I don't need to know what "James" had for tea on the 4th of June last year.
It's very glitchy and I find it makes following conversations between people quite awkward.

Why do you use timeline to have a convo? do you not use your news feed for this?

I found it took time to build timeline first time round, but never had a problem since.

How far do you have to go back, if not far what's the problem? However I've been on Facebook for a good few years and it has allowed me quickly to flick through my history, which was quite interesting. I'm not fussed about going through anyone else's timeline.

Exactly. I really can't see what all the fuss is about. I use FB regularly and very rarely feel the need to look at anyones timeline.

I'm a year into an economics degree, and if I've learnt one thing so far, it's that I have no clue AT ALL about capitalism. :)

Facebook are doing the polar opposite of what Myspace did. Myspace is no longer a viable social media platform because it failed to move with the times and made no effort to diversify. It's brilliant in that it designed the very boat it seems to have missed.

My personal reasons for disliking timeline is that I seem to have to dart my eyeballs all over the screen in a way I don't have to on any other web page. It feels very unnatural to use.

If the news feed actually worked properly and didn't pick and choose what it shows me then I wouldn't need to use timeline to follow a conversation

Sort by recent posts?

I like it. It make stalking people more fun, when your trying to put off doing coursework and revision. *hides*

ps. This only happen once or twice a year, when I get some work due in for uni. Not all the time.

Sort by recent posts works to a degree but it misses off updates randomly so you don't see them. Then later on it will show them. You also need to go through all the post settings for everyone as it defaults to only showing you posts from someone you interact with so if you don't talk to someone for a bit then it makes the problem worse!

It's not like a proper twitter timeline that shows everything. It's useless and always has been a problem.

I have my fb feed open in tweetdeck which always shows me the latest updates. It bypasses the FB newsfeed shoddery.

Never had that and been using timeline since the opt in

It's due to being a complete resource drain on the computer, mine's the same with facebook and the new Flickr justified view. It's a PITA on older machines.

After flash's recent updates as well that's now so slow that videos are completely unviewable on my machine now.
