Goodbye little fella.....

Yes
Had to have our house rabbit put to sleep today.

He's had a good life, as he had the run of most of the house and was never locked in his cage. He was well over 10 years old, but in the last 2 weeks his health declined rapidly, and the vet said that although there were things they could try, at his age, it was probably better to let him go now.

Strange that just a couple of weeks before he was ill he seemed to be back to his youthful self, running around the garden, and up & down the stairs. However he became very lethargic and was struggling to keep himself clean.

Seeya little fella.....

There comes a time with any pet one has to say goodbye to them. It is strange how empty a home becomes without one and how much you miss them. Over the last 40+ years we have had to go thru the same many times and it doesn't get any easier. At least your Rabbit has had a good life and that is how you have to think of a pet. My betting is it won't be long before you have another 4 legged animal running around the place but it won't be the same as the one that as been with you for all that time. Each is an individual.
Just remember the good times and the joy he/she gave you all those years.

Thanks Bazza....

We've been expecting it for a while as most rabbits don't even get passed 8 years. We know he's had a good life, and we have been talking about getting a rescue dog at some point, but we have held off as it didn't seem right with the rabbit in tow. He was actually "lumbered" on us by our son who moved into accommodation and couldn't keep him, that was 9 years ago....

Condolences, and well-done you for considering a rescue dog. Accept their foibles and issues and they will become the most loving companions. Consider choosing a breed-type first then research related rescue organisations. They know the specific breed and how to match a dog to his/her new carers.

Bye bye little fluffy bun

sorry for your loss :-(

my friend has house rabbits and it seems vet care can be tricky cos things seem to progress silently and quickly.

That's a handsome rabbit!
So sorry for your loss.
