Definitely seems to be year of the snake for me! Had never seen any in the UK before this year and this is the second/third grass snake so far this year.

Love the first pic. Shame about the sticks in the foreground, but really impressive capture of the snake. I really struggle getting the Focus on the subject with a messy foreground.

Yeah, not an ideal foreground but you rarely get to pick a good setting for snakes it seems hehe. I tried keeping as still as possible as soon as I saw it but I had to move a little to get this line of sight. That was enough to make it notice me and it wiggled off not long after lol

Not sure what they were up to... They were a bit skittish as they'd all take-off when I moved but then they'd just land there again when I sat still.

Love the grass snake shots.

Actually I think the foreground helps rather than hinders in this case, and maybe for many reptile shots.

They do tend to slink around in the scrub, so looks natural to me.........

As Tom said focussing is more difficult tho, but have overcome that.

Just my 2p worth...

Thanks getting AF to lock was a bit fiddly but it turned out alright I guess! I'd seen something move around that area before but never really seen what it was. I thought it was some kind of lizard in the past but this time it wasn't!
