It may well be an artistic intent decision…

I have not witness the scene so I would not know and, even if I did,
you still have the right to express it your way.

One observation though…
Too many objects in the FG are off and that affects the viewing pleasure.

Re: the artistic intent, it's his photograph [emoji16]

I would agree the vignette is a little over done (for me) and that the OOF areas in the foreground are distracting.

I've started to really like these shallow depth of field landscapes. This one work for me.
 
I do like the idea of the swallow depth of field but I wonder if the focus point needs to be a little closer so the crop heads in the foreground are in focus. I have tried doing similar with bluebells and ended picking shots with a sharper foreground. The panoramic style of framing does work in my opinion.
