Grey Heron with a water vole

Saw this grey heron catch and struggle to swallow a water vole because it got a stick caught up in it's beak. Well after a few minutes the vole went down and the heron went on it's way. Not sure who had the biggest lump in their throat, the heron or me ....

It wasnt going anywhere which seemed strange but it was determined to get a meal. We thought it might be injured but it was just waiting.

A smashing set, but I do like the last image with the wing kissing the water. Ive had a look on your flickr and have to ask how did you capture the in flight sequences of the butterflies
