Guardian of the future (Vellum diffuser)

This little lady (Candy stripe) has her eggs safely tucked away underneath the handle on top of our recycling bin, but the rain still gets in a bit. Mind you, it doesn't stop the occasional stray springtail popping by for a visit!

Using this sheet of vellum seems to help quite a bit - only the shiny subjects clearly show the 2 ring lights a lot - and I have found that if the vellum flattens out it doesn't work as well, so it needs to be in a soft curve across the front of the flash. I have also modified the way I have it attached above the lens - I bought for £7.99 a magnetic mobile phone holder which is black (tidier than the silver arm I had) and it is lighter and easier to angle if I need to.

I took this for the water droplets to see how the flash worked. Seems reasonable...

Bonus was the springy which I never saw until processing it...

That looks good Paul; a very appealing image to my eye. And I think the diffusion handled the light on the water droplets very well.

Great work Paul as always And is very interesting to see how and what you are doing with the diffusing you must have a lot of Patients as its doing my Brian in working with the lighting to get better shots myself ?

The flash is a bugbear as we all find out.

I'm told that using Lee filters white diffusion sheet 216 (sometimes doubled) is effective too, but the bloke that told me is in Switzerland and offered to send me some but I said no due to logistics costs...
