Sorry John, doesn't work for me I'm afraid. Then again, B&W wildlife images rarely do IMO.

I'd suggest levelling the image so that it doesn't appear to be swimming uphill

Agree with Wez that B&W rarely works and it does need levelling ... having said that it does have an appeal and I wouldn't write it off.

I don't give the cold shoulder to the monochrome rendition
as it is a legitimate and appreciable approach… possibly not
for birders I guess. I would be interested to know what promp-
ted the decision, though.

I don't agree with the necessity to level the take. Granted,
the water surface ripples area not inline with the horizon but
the body line of the bird is.

It does have an appeal, but it just doesn't seem that crisp.
