Yes
Seen these around in the past, but last week they were in the area for quite a while.
They seem to have a bit of equipment onboard & `chimping` seems the same for all 'togs. :)

Wondered if this was the work that Adam_M used to do.

Owww I like all flying machines and this is a very well photo !!!!

He does look quite relaxed up there doesn't he. lol
He will be its a very soothing place to be, he will have a sore bum after a few hours from the vibrations!
Looks like he's in a proper twin engined, twin squirrel helicopter, very expensive to run one of these, I think a few hundred a minute at the least, we have to use twin engine machines over largely populated areas like London.

Yeah this was once my job, I miss it! Still hear air traffic control in my ear sometimes, lol. :)

No doubt why they might be keen to use drones in the future, as long at they don't fly too close.....

Will he not have a good padded cushion or summat to help?
Obviously 1 of em is flying & another taking pics, but what will the 3rd fella be doing? Is he a co-pilot/observer? Were you a 'tog up there, or pilot?

What exactly are they looking for?

I see in that link they have bases in Inverness, Glasgow, Wolverhampton and Dublin, so taking pics over East Lancs, I presume they'll fly from Glasgow, then back.
Will they be employed by 1 power supplier, or by the National grid?

Certainly an interesting/different job

In this country yeah it's pretty much just national grid, in America there's a different one for each state, so more work out there.

My boss used to joke it was mostly tower porn for the engineers, but mostly looking for structural issues, you can use thermal and uv to see issues with the conductors( the cables)

I'd doubt he has a cushion under him, whenever I flew in that type of heli we have to take the cushions out, they're only stuck in with strong Velcro so they could fly out ( always thought that was a daft design)

I was a tog up there :) sometimes we have someone else onboard to do video while I do stills, helps cut down overall costs, as they usually go for video when they buy oblique imagery.

So you were working over there? (I just presumed your accident was on home ground)

Yes, not too far from you really. (y)

Cheers Adam.

"Barehanding" HT transmission lines.

I've no idea what they'd get paid for doing something like that, but..................... it isn't enough!
