Hornet attacks Hoverfly

Heard a commotion in the grass and found this hornet attacking a hoverfly.....

The attack begins:

Taking off with the prize - It was not until I viewed the image, that I noticed the second body on the floor. This location, was obviously its own killing field!

I had heard stories of this practice before, but was amazed to be able to record it!

I watched a wasp (think it was a wasp) dismember a spider and fly off with the body. Keeping it's food fresh I suppose. Fascinating stuff.
 
It is not a hoverfly! - the abdomen is wrong and you can see the wing venation to some extent in the second shot. Looks to me like one of the larger horseflies - something like Tabanus or Hybomitra.
