Hornets taken at Elvaston Castle Derbyshire

There's one around my garden. It was a bit scary the first time I saw it but yesterday I was just standing watching it as it worked around some flowers other insects were on. It chased the odd quite large fly so I guess it really was just chasing the fly off rather than looking for an oversized lunch. They actually are rather magnificent when you get past the fear factor.

Very nice set

Wow. Scary and stunning at the same time. Wish I could take pics like these

Lovely series, all nice and focused. No.3 is positively scary.

As Chris the Cobra said in another thread, hornets tend to be less aggressive than the smaller wasps (towards people). Even so, you're a braver man than me to get that up close and personal to one!

_MG_0012 shows the 3 ocelli (simple eyes) beautifully.
