I think that while red light is great for evoking horror, on its own it's not so great for stills photography and robs your image of contrast and depth. What works really well is, for example using a red light to illuminate the background and some white, or a paler colour on the subject, or using two contrasting colours or more to provide modelling. I'm particularly fond of gangrenous green.
