These could do with a run through a denoise program as they look a little noisy Les, apart from that they are pretty decent shots.
As you have the edit my photo switched to yes I noise reduced one for you. Here is the first one I ran through Topaz denoise ai, it has cleaned it up pretty well I think.

A big thankyou for that ive been after a decent noise editor ill look at that one
 
The top two are female Syrphus rebesii. The bottom two are males and the 3rd one could also be Syrphus sp, but I am not sure about the 4th one.

On the strength of that, I downloaded the trial,
A quick test, and its much better than CS5,
A little better than affinity, but 70 odd $ worth? I'm not sure.
I have about 3.5 weeks to test it further though.
