The are interesting birds and there are many difffernt species and s species

How about starting a thread with images and a little info

This is a Kelp Gull, (Larus dominicanus), and is the Southern Hemisphere equivalent to our Black backed Gulls, in size between the two - and for this reason it is also known as the Southern Black Backed Gull

Try to include a little info if you can and the Latin name as this help to show the family link

It is an image I have posted before on here as it was taken a year ago

Good idea Bill, as there are so many different types!

Great Black-Backed Gull (Larus Marinus)

Where to see them
Found around the coasts in the breeding season. At other times of year it can be found wherever gulls congregate - at reservoir roosts, rubbish tips inland, and bays and harbours.

When to see them
All year round - found inland most in winter.

What they eat
Omnivorous - shellfish, birds and carrion.

Black-Headed Gull, Winter Plumage (Chroicocephalus ridibundus)

Where to see them
The commonest inland gull, particularly in N England, Scotland and Wales. Large colonies along the south and east coasts of England.

When to see them
All year round.

What they eat
Worms, insects, fish and carrion.

Fulmar- Fulmarus glacialis or Northern Fulmar.

Technically this is not a gull but a Petrel.
One of the biggest mistakes made by people when seeing any big whitish or greyish bird is to say "it's a Seagull"
Read on, I think it is quite interesting.

I got these at the marsh in October and December

" As is the case with many gulls, it was previously placed in the genus Larus."

Here's another

I hope that this is Larus argentatus, but I always get confused with this and Larus fuscus and Larus marinus ...... if you want the Latin

all I can say is that it was a big bugger

I can never identify these things. Some have black heads (that are actually brown) but don't have them all year. Some have red bills, some yellow, some with a spot on them. Some have red legs some don't. You guys are pretty sharp when comes to sorting these things out. And I didn't know that a Fulmar was a Petrel, but now you say it, you can see it in the shape.

Yellow-legged Gull, (Larus michahellis) ?????????

but I'm not sure

Crete - October
