...........why anyone would want to photograph a fly, till now...............
This one posed when I'd finished with the 7 spot ladybird on one of the pittosporums. I've no idea what sort of fly it it. I've never looked at one so closely before.

Well done Jan. I photograph flies a lot because ... it's mostly what I find. Good job I find them interesting! They can be quite challenging too because, especially in brighter weather, they may not stay long in one place. If you find one that is grooming or blowing a bubble it may sit around for much longer and make for a very interesting and changing subject.
 
Nice shot Janny, it`s a Drone fly or Hoverfly to others, Possibly Eristalis sp, So, Eye`s are touching each other so it`s a Male, Females Eye`s are separated.
There are lots of different Hoverflies in the UK and are a good Pollinator.
