Thanks for the replies. I should have said that this was seen on a fairly open woodland path. I admit to not being particulary knowledgeable about moths and I have never heard of yellow underwings, small or otherwise. However, having looked into them I suspect this may actually be a battered and faded orange underwing based on where it was seen.
