Is there a more patronising, condescending cock?

For some reason my DAB radio will only pick up Radio 2, so I had to put up with this knob until I decided I'd rather listen to the tap of my keyboard. Now he comes up with this load of tosh.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-46162312

As usual, it's easy for the privileged few living within 5 minutes of work to talk about this, the whole non car stuff is totally unrealistic in this country, the state of public transport where I live would make commuting impossible. These dicks seem to form their opinions based only on their own circumstances. How many people work 9-5 Monday to Friday nowadays? And how many outside a city have access to decent transport the allows them to get to work,

And to top it all off, he ruins Eggheads!

I read that piece on the news site and it just made me think how out of touch the city dwelling luvvies who largely run this country are.

Many people have jobs which wouldn't be even remotely practical without a car and not having one could well turn simple things like shopping and socialising into near impossibilities or expensive time and effort sapping chores and of course the lives of people who for whatever reason can't walk or ride a bike would become much more difficult and expensive.

I have a little evil plot I'd carry out if I ruled the UK... I'd kidnap the royals, politicians and right on message celebrities, give them plastic surgery and new identities and deposit them I the middle of a north east of England council estate and say "Now make a living for yourselves in the real world."

Daily Mail Radio. Only listen to R2 in Mrs Nod's cars and tend to mute JV if I have the misfortune of being in the car while he (or VF) is on.

Ridiculous statement. You seem to have excessive bile, see your doctor. :)
As it happens I agree with Viv, though obviously some people must like him, and Jeremy Kyle, or they wouldn't be paying him his huge salary. Good luck to him, but personally I can't abide the man.

Yes, you only need to have the misfortune to hear his show when Vanessa Feltz is standing in to realise it.
I listen to the babbling idiot on the early early breakfast show, its always about her, her "name dropping" and the occasional person, trying to get a word in edge ways on the "Birthday slot"

I usually Listen to JV, on my drive back, I used to quite enjoy his show and guests, a few years ago,
but that statement is just plain ridiculous, he is getting more and more precious IMO ...

DAB...not exactly the radio saviour they imagined.

Does give me R6Music as an alternative to R2 or local stations.

What a cock!!! He is one of those cyclists I hate, and I can't abide people who take have the sort of ideas like renaming drive time as its pro car!!! Prick!

You guys do realise that radios have off buttons....don't you?

And that minor media minions are not worth wasting a moment on if you don't like them?

Really? I should have read the manual :)

Sorry, who's Jeremy Vine?

I'm going out on a limb that he's a radio 2 presenter bitter at not getting the drivetime show.

I try to make some allowance for the fact he is clearly not very bright.

Some gardener chap was on his show talking about planting up sweet peas and Vine asked how long it would be before they could be eaten.

A while back he said his (teenaged?) daughter had asked him why is was illegal for people to print money themselves. I remember him saying he had no idea how to answer her as he did not know why we could not all print our own money and that he was inviting people to comment on it on his radio show and explain why the government takes this position, so he could tell his daughter. I can understand seeking an explanation of the control of circulation and quantity of money and consequences as a subject of interest, but to publicly state he could not think of a single answer himself.... well, not much capacity for logic or insight there. I would have thought any idiot could have come up with some reasonable answers to give her. Its not rocket science is it, to work out how it might destabilise the economics of the country.

I dont understand how he has ended up with 2 very well paying jobs. I can only assume he is 'one of the lads' in his workplaces, so was promoted through being good at social stuff with his managers - therefore is liked as a personality by managers, rather than his intelligence or education.

Oh I take it back, I just looked him up and his education may have counted after all
- from Wikipedia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeremy_Vine :

"Vine was educated at
Lynton Preparatory School
[independent, fee paying, now shut down] in Ewell, then
Aberdour School in Burgh Heath, and then
Epsom College.[5] ... then
Durham University (Hatfield College), he graduated with a 2:2 undergraduate degree in English."

"Aberdour School,
founded in 1933, is a co-educational preparatory school for ages 2–13 in Burgh Heath (near Banstead), Surrey, England. It is a nursery department, pre-preparatory school and preparatory school,[3] and covers 14 acres (57,000 m2), 10 of which are playing fields... It was founded as a boarding school."
[2018 fees per term £3,695 to £4,840]

"Epsom College
is a co-educational Independent school, on the slopes of Epsom Downs in Surrey, in Southern England, for pupils aged 11 to 18"
A quick look near the bottom of the college page https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Epsom_College
shows it dripping with good connections / ex pupils.
[2018 fees per year £18,765 to £37,263,
depending on which year of school the child is in and day schooling or boarding status]

So very much One of the Establishment.

Also from the Wikipedia page

"It was revealed on 4 February 2015 that Vine received a five-figure sum for a post-dinner speech at a £250-a-head banquet organised by ADS Group, the trade organisation that represents defence and security industries in the UK, and attended by global arms manufacturers. Campaign Against Arms Trade lodged a formal complaint with the BBC, claiming a conflict for the organisation appearing to support an industry which "profits from dictatorships which silence and suppress debate". This prompted a BBC response saying: "Jeremy is a freelance presenter and so can make personal appearances without speaking on behalf of the BBC, as he did here."[18]"

I have read the rest of the page now. I am staggered at how many high end jobs he has held, I had no idea about any career before the very poor radio show he does now. It seems so unlikely.

I would add I like the show as I am interested in members of the publics views on issues, I wish they were interviewed better - things improve a lot when a guest presenter is in place.

.

The best is still the story of the Tortoise who was resuscitated after drowning and was brought into the studio. Jeremy asked it's owner "does it make a noise, does it bark or anything?"

Thanks for the heads up I found it :D

I was listening properly to JV today, driving back, and not just "noise in the back ground, the JV show really has gone down hill :(

When I’m at home during the week I go to 6 music when JV comes on, usually don’t switch back, whereas the car radio is permanently in R2 as I’m rarely in the car when he’s on.

I think I could easily become a 6 music convert if the car had dab.

I just listen to Planet Rock in the car. I haven't listened to R2 for about 5yrs when I was on a training course for work.
I do often catch JV on his tv show though, but that is just a chance to see the lovely Storm. ;)

Was that at lunchtime when he was discussing boils and carbuncles? (On way home from shopping.)

Fortunately I missed that bit, but it was scheduled as brexit and boils :D

Both of which one could wish on Mr Vine...

As an aside, talking of Radio 2, I am a fan of regional accents, in fact I think everyone should have one ( :D )

But am I the only one that thinks that Travel girl Rachel Horne's voice is bloody annoying? !

And often unintelligible!

As the old saying goes, you don't miss what you've got till it's gone. Those Janet and John stories on Terry Wogan's Breakfast Show for instance. How some of those ever got broadcast at that time in the morning! :D I really got into Terry Wogan's show in his latter days on Radio 2; gentle fun poking, funny banter and great radio to have breakfast and drive to work to. I think that era was the Radio 2's heyday and it's gone downhill lately, particularly after that time change and presenter doubling for the drivetime show.
