As the title says really. Just been browsing and found some old images I'd taken (not my best by any means) on someone's Flickr account. They're not claiming them as their own but they've not bloody asked me if they can use them or linked back to their source either.

First time this has happened to me (to my knowledge) and was looking for a few pointers on how to word my email to them. I don't want to seem arrogant or rude but I'm not in the least bit happy about where they are or the lack of courtesy shown. :help:

The same thing has happened with some of my rugby photos from our club site, other club's we've played have gone on after I've stuck the photos on and used them. I don't know how to approach the subject without sticking me size 6's in, so I'd be interested to see what answers you get

Go and staple giblets and fish guts to their front door :D

You can take the non-contact approach if you like, and just report it to Flickr.

I have heard a similar tale not so long ago actually, someone uploading shots to their flickr account, saying "This is such and such a body's"

just ask the address to which you send your invoice.

They're not using them for profit. Most likely its some guy who doesn't get what Flickr is about. I've had it done. People saves photos they like to it which is silly. Save a screenshot and report it to Flickr. Its all built in.

yup - use the report abuse link at the bottom of the photos' page. I gather flickr is usually quite quick to react to this sort of thing

I had people stealing my pictures from my MYSPACE account, so i stopped putting them on there. I especially liked it when one guy said he took the photo..........but HE WAS IN THE PICTURE, and there was NOWAY he could have done it remotely, he was on a BMX and about 5 foot off the floor.

Apart from reporting it to Flickr and sending your invoice - are they linking directly from your site? If so put an extra watermark on them, maybe something along the lines of:

Images shown here by Bandwidth Thief -
ChrisL, the photographer and copyright holder of these images invites you to visit their site at www.xxxxxxxxx.com

Don't forget to put new ones on your site with a different name though

I have started adding my web address to my copyright so that as the original artist I can easily be found.

Sending an invoice? lol don't be silly. Its Flickr, a photo sharing site. They're not using it commercially.

I remember a few years ago a forum i used to frequent (now closed) had thousands of members, a member found a site had been linking (hotlinking) to his and claiming pictures as his own. The rougue site was actually a business site in Asia. After repeated requests to remove the picture every member on the forum had agreed at a certain time and date to visit this site and post inane messages to swallow up a lot of his bandwidth. That along with a extreme pornographic photo which replaced the hotlinked photo soon cured the problem.

Perhaps a similar practice could be done here with members supporting legit togs

The real thing to do is to contact the person and explain what they are doing is wrong.

Or fill in a complaint?

Mind you - as I've said before, by using Flickr you are letting them have rolayty free use of your photo's. It's part of their T&C's

They need that in order to reproduce the photos online, basically you're granting them usage rights and the terms do specify the limits of that use. s.C is for other content such as text and not photos/images.

I prefer to spend my time having fun taking photos instead of developing ulcers worrying myself to death about 'unauthorized use' of my photos. It's not worth it, imo.

The moment you post a photo you have effectively, and knowingly, relinquished control over its use. So don't whinge if it does get used!

Don't want anybody to steal your photos? Then don't post 'm!

Get real!

Sorry mate but that is complete poppycock.

In the words of the great Arthur Rudge "What a lot of rot you do talk".

Would you mind if I nicked and sold some of your photos then? ;)

Thanks for the advice guys and with regards to any consent given to Flickr by posting my images on their site... I didn't actually post them ;)

No idea why posting this topic means I don't go out and take plenty of pics.

If you want to be apathetic when you find images of yours being used by others without your consent (assuming you ever have?) then that's your choice but frankly, imo your rant has no real logic to it at all, just a defeatist attitude.
