I think this is the male bird with the heavier dark band on the tail. I'm rather pleased with this as it's my first bird-in-flight image that's actually worked. Not bad considering I was doing landscape and had to completely reset the camera, and only had the 18-135 Canon kit lens on. There's probably lots of faults with it but I'm too chuffed to see them at the moment.

For what is basically a kit-lens replacement (I have one), that is a cracking shot
A testement that 'cheap' glass can still produce great results
