My wife has very kindly said she would pay for me to attend a kingfisher Hide as a Birthday present, looking for anyone on here to give me advice on this matter, ie if they have used one of these specialised hides, location, how successful was the trip, l live in Warrington in the north of England and am willing to travel around 2hrs or so to attempt to get some good photos.

I've been here and found the set up to be good

I believe they dive most days and if you can get the timing of the young in the nest of just fledging then dives come in as young learn to feed/ are fed up

Alan is a top bloke who is passionate about wildlife. He'll see you right, I was at one of his kingfisher hides back in January from dawn until dusk (the new one that hadn't opened to the public at that time) and it was a great day. I got some great perched shots and also had a go at diving birds. I'm currently working on a kingfisher site near home but the paid hide day is something I would do again, well worth the 90 minutes on the road.

Thanks for replying, was looking at max 1.5/2 hrs so Scotland a little to far considering having to meet up early to get to the hide, think l my be falling asleep inside the hide. Also beside the hide what do people think is around the best time in summer, early or late? Thanks again.
