I thought it was cute until I got to the threatening last one!

Was it quite small? The only ladybirds I have seen for a while in our garden are black with some red, and small, and very reflective indeed. I've found it really difficult to get any half decent shots of them. In fact, I just ignore them now.
Nick, it was maybe 4-5mm in size - I saw a 12 spot today of similar dimensions on the fence by the side of the house...
