I'd overlooked this image as I didn't think it was particularly strong, certainly not exposure wise and maybe weak compositionally too. Whilst I couldn't do much about the composition, a bit of tweaking and twiddling brough out a totally different image.

That looks a lot better, but I'm wondering if you've perhaps lightened the bridge a wee bit too much?

You do have a point Bob as I thought exactly the same thing and I did burn the brickwork down but maybe not quite enough. I could also maybe darken the shadows overall.
 
Profitable use of the colour sliders, after converting to B & W, in Lightroom would help this image. Lower the orange and yellow until the bricks are darker - to your taste.
 
you have opened it up well and used the black to white as the perfect foil
like it a lot
and that technique is in my bag now

Thanks for the comments guys. I have had a go at darkening the brickwork down but lost my way with it a little. I will try again. (y)
 
Love it - certainly shows the value of poking those jiggeries :)
