Lichen on garden ornament

Not usually my genre but now have my first dedicated macro lens so it would be rude not to use it.

Taken in my back garden tripod mounted with natural light.

Any critique welcomed as I probably have a lot to learn about macro.

18th second @ f17 - ISO 400

Canon 5DMK2 100mm f2.8 macro.

That is moss sporangia, not lichen. Not a bad shot for a start.

That is a solid start Terry. I find moss quite difficult to make a nice (to my eye) picture out of; moss is a bit "messy" visually. For example you tend to get things like in your image here the out of focus flowers in front of the plane of focus which obstruct the view of the in-focus flowers and distract the eye. I spend some time with botanical subjects trying to line them up nicely, and that is especially the case for moss on the rare occasions when I photograph it.
