Lightroom Classic - Enable Profile Corrections

Lightroom Classic: I am using this and usually shoot in RAW and today decided to shoot in JPEG, when I go to the develop section and the lens correction section, I tick Enable Profile Corrections, normally in RAW it automatically selects the lens I am using, however in JPEG it's not there.

My main question is do I need this function and what does it actually do ?

It is useful, if there is a profile for your lens it will correct for aberration, vignetting etc, however it is only available when you use raw files...
