Started taking photos of my local rugby club, Lasswade. I think I'm getting the hang of it as these are a lot better than when I first started out. Would appreciate constructive criticism on them though. Would also welcome advice on how to deal with sports photography when shooting into the sun.

1. Bin it. The focus is on number 18's back, which isn't of any interest. Even if the focus had been on the action happening on the far side, it wouldn't have been of particular interest either.

2. Standard action shot, in focus, but legs cut off at the bottom which kind of ruins it. Strange square crop with too much dead space above and to the right, supporter in background is distracting.

3. Good try pic but but crop a little tighter to get rid of distracting cars

4. Good action shot but again crop means distracting right hand side of pic

5. Good lineout pic but crop is too wide, person on far right very distracting

6. Standard action shot

7. Good action shot but not sure why there's so much empty space on right hand side

8. Ultra wide panoramic pics like this simply don't work, even though a lot of people do it. Your eye has to hunt for the point of interest which isn't what good photography is about.

Keep practicing, if you can sense you've improved from when you first started out you're on the right track.
