Looking to begin keeping fish. Are there any decent forums in the UK that specialise in aquariums?

What kind of fish? I did keep tropical a good few years ago, took up too much of my time. Can be hard work getting things right, marine fish can be a nightmare to get right.

I think if I was keeping fish again, I would probably go for cold water fish.

Just had a quick ( search engine) nosey, and there are loads of UK forums floating about. Just no idea if they are any good.

I've kept fish a lot over the years, cold water and both marine and freshwater tropical.

About the only ones I’d be interested in now would be the Rift Valley cichlids, colourful and fascinating fish I think.

I can’t recommend a forum though.

I started off with bread and butter stuff, like guppies and neon etc. My favourite were snake heads and my lovely silver arowana. I did enjoy keeping them, but became a chore cleaning the tank, and looking after the water.

Had to trip to my local garden center this afternoon. Saw 2 notices for sterlet and some some discus , but there's no way in keeping those!

What fish? Something that will go best in a 10 gallon tank. (Can be larger though).
Betta maybe and something else to go with it

Not in a rush, just seeing what my options are at the moment

Used to use fishforums.net when I first set my tank up and found the advice pretty solid. That was around 10 years ago...

I'm using fishforums.net

I've lost track on fish forums lately, I used to use a few and Ultimate Reef as well as Reefs UK were the ones to use back then. Those are saltwater based forums though. Ulitmate Reef is still up and running.

I'm not sure these days on what forums might be about for freshwater keepers.

I use Ultimate Reef and some Facebook Reef/Marine groups for my needs, tonnes of information and some local purchase opportunities. Marine can be a pain, but going for the right setup in the first place makes a LOT of difference and the rewards are definitely worth it.

Another one for Ultimate Reef - Been on there for the best part of a decade. Its predominantly Marine Aquaria but there are some great sections and references for freshwater if that's the route you're going down. What sort of setup are you after? I've built Reef systems from small to large over the years if you need any advice?

Please also seek the advice of a mortgage broker if Reef Keeping is the route you're going down :D

"Just keep a small tank", "Don't go over the top" were the words going through my mind initially, I write this now whilst looking at my Red Sea Reefer 350 with Evergrow IT5080 Full Spectrum lighting, and my 250l Boyu tank with TMC Aquarays o_O

I hear you mate, i still remember parting with nearly £800 on two Vortech MP40's

Thanks guys. I'm just sticking with one forum. I'm not interested in saltwater.

I still remember my 4ft marine tank fondly and also ducking the crystal glass ashtray the ex threw at me that went through it
