I thought I'd ignore some of the premade actions I've got in photoshop and start trying to learn more about how things work a bit better.

Found some phlearn tutorials on youtube, i've probably looked at them in the past - but I use it so infrequently it hadn't stuck

I prefer the first one, the eyes are much more engaging (if that's the right word).
Also the overall effect for me is nicer.

I rarely use photoshop, so am not very good with it. I've now started to watching YouTube tutorials by piximperfect, I need someone to go though each step, so I know exactly what to do and I've found him the best for me. He has some really good videos for eyes and skin.

Well the second one has no processing at all, it was just to show what I started with - at least I didn't make it worse, in your eyes ;)

I actually might prefer a colder rendition, i think it fits better to tell a story, adds a real sadness

Love it and love the processing.

I thought the eyes might be a bit overdone but i only thought that after seeing the before, had i not seen that i probably wouldn't have thought that.

Great job on the skin, nicely done

I do like the cooler version.
Personally, I'd consider doing something about the hair across her right cheek.

Thanks, I made a quick attempt messed it up because I had split things out on layers and didn't do it again properly - shouldn't be difficult at all

After trying something different, it makes me reconsider the exposure of the first images

Nice work!!

I wonder whether the forehead is a little too smooth?
- and I like the fact that I can see the brighter scarf on the left of the image in the original, it separates her from the background just a little better - though I can see why you darkened it a little.

Thanks,

I good portion of the forehead is just out of the plane of the focus, which might contribute

Some decent PP there Dan. It's so easy to over cook it but I think you've got this about right. Of all the versions I prefer the warmer one most.
