Galaxy season and UK has clear skies for once. M81 on the left is a spiral galaxy known as Bodes which is approximately 12 million light years from us. M82 on the right is a starburst galaxy know as the Cigar Galaxy and is roughly the same distance away. The little blue blob above M81 is a dwarf galaxy catalogued as PGC 28757
These 2 galaxies have been in gravitational lock for billions of years and it's expected that in a few more billion years they will collide and merge into a single galaxy.
Before that happens, I grabbed a few photos. 5.5hours later I had 165 x 2min exposures
