Thought I'd kick off with some pics of three schemes by one of my favourite British architectural firms of the last forty years or so - while they're unapologetically modern, they have their roots firmly planted in the Arts and Crafts tradition.

Is that the imprint of the form work on (what I assume) is concrete in image 3?

Nope it's Portland stone. From one of the Roach beds at in the top layers where the pressure from above was lower, which preserves the shells of the marine creatures that form the stone and gives it a fascinating texture.

Did a little digging (pun unintended) and, specifically, it's Bowers Roach from Albion Stone. The smoother stone, with the carved detail, is Portland New Independent Whitbed.

What a stunning material! Its gonna sound strange to many but I really want to touch it... :LOL:

Thanks for doing the digging (oops), its a material im off to google to find more about.
