I used to work for a diagnostics company based on the edge of Houston, and the VP whose house I visited mentioned they'd had an alligator in the back garden only a few days before. Snakes were also common, and the veranda was fitted with a spray system to kill insects so they could sit outside safely in the evening. Sounds more like Australia than America!
