Thanks Jak. This time I think I did most thing correctly - on a tripod, mirror locked up, and shutter released by the timer, and I was lucky that it was a very still night. Still needed a load of cropping; 300mm is far to short for a decent sized image of the moon.

You've got some great detail there for a heavily cropped 300mm image. I use 600mm, but you still need the atmospheric conditions to be right to get it spot on. Looks like things smiled for you :)
 
Thanks Jan. I was a bit surprised, but happy too, that it came out well. You are right about the atmospheric conditions. If I remember correctly it was coldish, and a clear night after some rain.

Excellent detail. It's amazing what regular lenses can capture. I think a lot of people believe that you need a camera on the end of a the;escape to get good shots of the moon. I think correct processing is important too which you're obviously on top of.
