Possibly because AJS and Matchless were at one time, one and the same company (AMC) and produced identical bikes with different names, later on they absorbed Norton when the company left the site at Woolwich.
 
And oddly, there's just been a segment on The Motorcycle Show about the current incarnation of AJS.
 
Not just you. However, the sidekicks are worth watching and listening to, especially Allen Millyard.

Oh, absolutely, he knows more of interest about bikes than so many. Sam Lovegrove is also so interesting and watchable.
 
The assorted youtube videos of Millyard building the straight 6 Kawasaki from 3 fours is well worth seeking out and watching.
 
I hope I can remember which lever does what!!! Glad I don't have to contend with an assortment of layouts like a suicide shifter and right foot gear changes!
