Spent hours in the hide at Loch of Strathbeg on a cold March morning, nothing exciting happening. Then out of the corner of my eye I caught some movement at the side of the reed bed, hoped it was a Water Rail. Alas no, it was this beautiful creature slowly edging out from the reed. I did not move a muscle, in fact I was scared to breath. Slowly he made his way out to the middle and I took my chance to take some pictures, I thought he would spook and take off. But no he turned slowly to see where the noise was coming from then slowly slipped in to the water and swam off. 4 hours of sitting and after about 60 seconds with this guy, my day was made. Despite numerous trips back to the same place at the same time since that day, I have never had the pleasure of his company again. But a memory I will never forget.
