I was there with my uncle who is a Korean war vet.

When my dad finished his basic training at Catterick, they were all lined up and the SM said to the first to step forward, then every alternate man to do the same.

“You lot are off to Korea; the others are going to Egypt”

So that was how my dad ended up in Egypt and then Cyprus with the Signals for his National Service [emoji846]

Brilliant, and an amazing coincidence in a crowd of 8,000 people. That said, we did bump into and speak to three people we know from the island, so anything is possible

My hubby was mentioned in the Queen's Birthday Honours List last year and although the ceremony took place here on the island this invitation to a garden party was a lovely bonus
