Stuck a new bit of polystyrene foam packaging across the ringflash tonight. Below it is a piece of opaque plastic milk carton and a piece of one of those disposable party plates you get from the pound shops.

First shot is a ringpull on a John Smith's bitter can (emptied of course!)...

Flash was set to -1 EV and I took just 2 shots (2nd was a bit too much out of focus) so this is the first one.

70D, Venus 60mm, YN560-III diffused. Taken at 1/160sec, f/11, ISO 160.

Highly reflective and loads of curves. A very difficult subject of course Paul (which is why you chose it presumably, like I use shiny batteries). The flash intensity would need to go down to avoid the blown area. Would that then be too much to recover from? I doubt it - you can pull 70D files up a long way. Difficult (for me at least) to judge how good the diffusion is with such a tricky subject and no comparison with previous setups. All my setups look terrible with shiny batteries. Look forward to seeing it used on a more forgiving subject, insect, spider or whatever.
