Nikon D750 & D780

Popped down to Bicester today for the Land Rover Legends meeting. Thought I'd travel light with the D750 & my 'plastic fantastic' 28-80 f3.3-f5.6 zoom lens.

Love this little lens, OK so I can't get the separation I can with a prime, but for a £15.00 quid lens, it performs pretty darn well!
Just shot in 'P for Professional' mode as I wanted to make it as easy as possible for shooting...:)

Here's a few more from Oahu
The light was dire due to the constantly overbearing cloud.

was a bit bored this morning and as a newcomer to this thread (only bought camera a month ago) I thought I would start from the first posts. Well after reading the first 20 pages it seems a lot were not happy with the specs, weight, and the drop from a pro body to a prosumer body. I wonder how many of those original posters actually bought a 750 ????

that's some rave :p
That's Beltane :)
Largest festival of its type in the world. 350 performers, 2 months prep work. I was the GO for Photopoint, we had 12 togs and 1 vid to cover the 17 groups and all performances and interactions. Great fun!

A few days in LA, Luckily for me the hotel has a rooftop terrace. IMG_20190601_224336_555.jpegIMG_20190601_223945_965.jpegGRE_6102~2.JPG

Spent a few hours on Saturday over at Shelsley Walsh Hill Climb which is pretty close by. Lots of different classes and cars on show, going up the hill.
Never shot there before so it was a bit of fun. Definitely need a longer (better quality) lens if I want to shoot more there!

Is it just me or is the D750 a bit of a bargain now? Popped into Jessops today to see how it felt in hand but they didn't have one. Did try the Z6 and didn't like the feel of it - not happy if my pinky falls off the grip. The other thing I wanted to check was the viewfinder. Big and bright?

I think the D750 is an amazing bit of kit... Everything it does, it does so well.

New it's a bargain, second hand and grey it's even more of a bargain, but then I think most of the DSLR offerings from Nikon are a bargain at present with the FF mirrorless revolution that's going on.

I am interested to look more closely at the Z6/Z7 options, I tried both at the Photo Show this year and really liked them, but the one option that really felt right was the D850... That left quite an impression on me, probably more so than the Z series!

Do I need one, nope - I think the D750 does everything I want from a camera, would I like one of the other options, well yes in some ways. Ergonomically and button layout I think the D850 works better but for the cost the D750 works great.

Highlight weighted metering is brill. (y)

Mind you there's often more in the highlights than might be imagined.

That's incredible, but is there not more detail in that sky that you could have kept, or did you want rid of the grey clouds?

I guess so, I'm pretty happy with the results albeit was a pretty quick edit really just to show how useful the highlight metering mode is.

:agree: cannot go wrong with a 750, my mate just bought one from Jessops last week for under £1500 with the 24-120 VR lens.

It is a great buy at the mo. I’m hesitating because of the close spread of af points. I do a lot of vertical photos of tiddlers with the top focus point on an eye and think the top point is going to be too low.

If your rider is stationary, AF-S and recompose. If your rider is in motion, you probably don't want to be zoomed in that close anyway for the points to cause a problem

Lol, good advice but I mainly photograph toddlers not horses.

It is an issue tbh, and although the D850 was better it still caused issue from time to time in landscape orientation. I learnt to have a wider shot than intended so that the focus point was on the subject and then cropped in post. The only other way around it is to go mirrorless tbh.

Deal breaker for me. Looks like another D800 will do the job instead.

The D750 is only a gnats smaller coverage than the D800 tbh

The D850 is the best of the lot though, here you can see it against the D810 which I believe is similar to the D800

True 'nuff but there's more scope for cropping with the D800 which helps. D850 is definitely tempting but I'm just too tight/poor.

Having had a successful stint with m4/3 I'm now looking to move back to full frame and while most of my focus has been on the a7iii I just can't shake the feeling that the D750 is incredible bang for buck. It's really made me question the whole sony vs nikon systems (esp lenses) and which one I'd rather buy into. A used or grey D750 and couple of f1.8 primes is surprisingly cheap for the quality you get...

Pros and cons for each tbh. I would say overall the Sony is the better camera but ergonomics don’t suit everyone, and I know it’s vastly improved but I still don’t think Sony’s colour science and WB is as good as Nikon’s. Obviously this is a very personal thing. Also, for me I find the Nikon profiles in lightroom have more ‘pop’ and need a lot less faffing, again this is personal preference.

I always shoot raw files. How the hell have I spent the morning shooting small jpegs? :banghead:

Thankfully everything is as rubbish as usual!

All was not lost. My other D750 was set for raw. :giggle:

I have one and it is a great walk around, toying with the idea of going primes only so I might be selling mine, depends on the cost of replacements.

I'm looking at moving my 35mm on to make way for a 24-70mm
