Hiya all, a customer of mine has a Nikon F80 35mm film camera and has asked if I know if the lenses he has for this body will work with a Nikon dslr, I have only ever used canon:canon: stuff so have no idea. Does anybody round here know?

They will all work but there may be some loss of automation, depending on the lenses being used !

I use totally manual lenses from my F3 days on my D200 without too much hassle - as I usually shoot in 'M' anyway !

if he goes for a d70 (maybe d50 too) he wont be able to use the aperture ring on it, he'll have to use the camera controls. i think there may be some issues with older manual focus lenses too if he uses them.

We're still using some older lenses that we had when using F90-x (film) cameras. My 80-200 f/2.8 is just such a beast and has full functionality, but is a little slower to focus than the brand-new AF-Nikkor VR lenses.
I actually prefer some of the older lenses beacuse although they're usually heavier, they seem a bit sharper to me.
No doubt when we get the new VR 80-200's I'll be converted...
