Graeme, as much as I appreciate your effort, your
original was not a technically faulty rendition since
it reflects your taste but it just didn't please me…
very subjective, FWIW.

I would ease of on the sliders in processing.
Your first one lacks contrast whilst your second has too much in the foreground and none in the sky. The greens are a tad too green in the second image also.
